Big "I" Makes a Political Impact
The Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America is a national organization of independent insurance professionals. It was founded in 1896 and currently represents more than 300,000 independent insurance professionals in 23,000 agencies throughout the United States. The group is known as "Big 'I'" in reference to the group's trade symbol.
Big "I" supports the Trusted Choice program. Agents and brokers who are members take a Pledge of Performance to provide a high level of customer service. On the Trusted Choice website, their is an agent search feature to help you find a Trusted Choice/Big "I" independent agency in your area
Big "I" also has its own Political Action Committee. InsurPac is the Political Action Committee (PAC) of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America. In the 2008 political elections, Big "I," through InsurPac, made a political impact on many local congressional races. Nathan Riedel, Big “I” vice president for political affairs announced, “InsurPac distributed $1,631,500 in support of 241 races, winning 222 of them for an amazing 92% victory rate." InsurPac claims its support is not provided along party lines, but rather focused on those congressional members that support the independent agent system. A check of Federal Election Commission filings shows, for example, the PAC gave $30,000 to the Republican National Committee and $30,000 to the Democratic National Committee.
PAC's provided support for any number of agendas and political ideology. InsurPac, is truly a grass roots PAC. For 2008, 2505 individual contributors are identified. 2,500 independent agents in towns all across the United States donating $250-1000 to have an organized voice in Washington. And, it appears their donations were put to good use.
