In December 2007, I wrote a post about business insurance for Santa Claus. I have put up a variation every Christmas Eve since then and I always get some positive feed back.
I won't take credit for being the first to explore Santa's business insurance needs, and other writers have explored Santa's insurance needs. One of the commentators (Nancy) to the original post suggested Santa needed travel insurance, for example.
Writers have covered Santa's life insurance needs also.
I will take credit for the substantial reduction in Santa's premiums. AON Risk Solutions estimates his premium cost at $38.6 million. However, AON notes that is a nearly $8 million reduction since they last explored premium options with our jolly old elf. Clearly, he read my article in 2007 and started some end-of-year premium planning that is now saving some premium dollars (or pounds, since it appears Santa prefers UK-based insurers).
We advised Santa that he should "review his planned operations and develop a clear plan to discuss with his insurance professional. He would want to have all of his relevant documents with him for his meeting (I hope he'd use the checklist on this site!)."
Some insurance professional probably scored a pretty sizable commission when Santa came in with my advice and I think a finder's fee is in order (unless illegal in that jurisdiction).
But, in any case, Happy Holidays! Santa is already on his way. Safely insured.
